As we are in this season of Thanksgiving, and I think about the blessings that God has given me, I really can’t list them all. I've tried, and the list just goes on and on, and I’m sure that I would miss a bunch too. I believe that we are truly blessed to live where we do, and in this point in history that we are in. However, I know that at times when we look at the order of the world and the chaos that is all around us, both here at home in the United States, and also around the world, we can really get a bad attitude about life in general and allow the things of “this world” to drag us down and get us depressed. When that happens, all we see are the negatives and it’s really hard if not next to impossible to see the positive.
We tend to dwell on what our focus is on, and if it is on the negative, that is what overflows from our hearts. If we focus on the positive, those other people can’t stand to be around us. What camp have you settled into lately?
Listen to these words from the Apostle Paul, from Philippians 4 verses 4-7,
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Remember, Elisha helped the widow change her focus on life from only seeing what she didn't have, to seeing what she did. Don’t miss out on the blessings that you do have, because you’re stuck dwelling on the negative. Rather, rejoice in who you are in Christ, and allow Him to guide your path and lean upon His understanding so that you can, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
