Over the past few weeks we have been talking about Hard to Love People. Why? Because people are hard to love. They can be needy, manipulative, hypocritical, and overly critical of us. Sometimes pizza is easier to love than people. Yet we are given a command, an obligation, to love people even those who are sometimes hard to love.
Jesus said it this way, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
It's true, we all have those people in our lives who are hard to love. They mistreat us, talk about us behind our backs, consume a lot of our time, try to manipulate us to do things we don't want to do or aren't led by God to do, or are unjustly critical of us. But, as we saw each week during this series, we always brought it back to ourselves and the reality of it all is that WE...YOU....ME...we can and are that hard to love person from time to time....or more often than we'd like to admit.
The reality is for many of us the problem is that we can be hypercritical. We find fault everywhere all of the time, and it makes us feel better, it justifies our own behaviors and it's just wrong. And today, my prayer is, "God, help us to acknowledge that, and ask for your help to change our hearts so that we can help bring healing into our own life and into the lives of others around us, because satan only wants to steal, kill and destroy, but you God, want to give us life and share the hope that we have in you, with others too."
